Five Fandoms and Their Must Have Merchandise!

The Broke and the Bookish hold a Top Ten Tuesday meme every week, and though it is Sunday in Australia right now (I have been DROWNING in university work) I’m still going to give it a shot!

Fandoms can be a blessing and a curse, but either way, once you’re in, you’re in. You can never leave. So I’m going to make a list of my top five fandoms (simply because I couldn’t think of any more!) and show you the best piece of merchandise to get for each of them!

1) The Raven Cycle Fandom

Obsessed doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel about Maggie Stiefvater’s The Raven Cycle books. They are my oxygen, my soul. The fandom has its ups and downs, like all fandoms do, but DAMN do we make the most aesthetically pleasing Tumblr posts, and DAMN do we make the best headcanons for our characters while we wait for Maggie to release the Ronan Trilogy, and DAMN do we make the best (and sexiest) fanart.

My fave piece of The Raven Cycle merchandise is my Adam Parrish sweater from Redbubble, which I just noticed is no longer available to buy?!?!? Still, I definitely recommend searching The Raven Cycle on sites like Society 6Redbubble, and Etsy. They are all completely trustworthy and allow you to get any merch you like!

2) The Star Wars Fandom

I. LOVE. STAR. WARS. TO. DEATH!!!! I grew up with it. Luke Skywalker was one of my first fictional boyfriends (nowadays, I’ve ditched Luke for his dad, especially the version of him in Episode III.) The Star Wars fandom is mostly full of older males, and talking about Star Wars on my YouTube Channel has made me fully aware of how condescending and downright disgusting some males can be towards female Star Wars fans. But that’s a rant for another day.

A must-have piece of Star Wars merchandise is a lightsaber… Like, let’s be real, there is nothing more satisfying than pretending to be a Jedi and smacking your brothers with it. I have Darth Vader’s lightsaber, and it doesn’t make any noises or lights up, but damn is it fun to whip out in front of you! The best thing is, you can get lightsabers from literally any toy store across the world!!! (Yes, I am wearing a Darth Vader costume in this photo… It was for a Muck Up day at high school!)

3) The Shadowhunters Fandom

The Shadowhunter world is a place that will never leave my heart, no matter how many mistakes Cassandra Clare makes or how many shitty film adaptions they will make. (Let me make this straight, I LOVE THE SHADOWHUNTERS TV SHOW TO BITS!!!!!!!! But I didn’t really enjoy the movie.) The Shadowhunters fandom is insane, and it’s always good to not listen to people who try to dictate whether or not you are ‘allowed’ to like something just because they don’t like it themselves.

My favourite piece of Shadowhunters merchandise is my Clockwork Angel necklace. It is so beautifully intricate, and I’ll take any chance I can to pretend that I’m Tessa Gray and that Will Herondale loves me. You can buy this necklace from Hebel Design for a pretty damn reasonable price!

4) The Batman Fandom

I really do not like Marvel superheroes. I never have and probably never will (I do love Deadpool to bitt, but he’s really the only one). DC Comics have been a part of my life since I was a kid, and Batman in particular has been my favourite superhero for as long as I can remember. He’s broody and introverted and unable to talk about his feelings… Basically, he’s someone I relate to. But even more than that, I love the Bat family… Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Damien Wayne, Barbara Gordon, and Cassandra Cain. I also love the villains of Gotham… Harley Quinn, The Joker, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Bane, Killer Croc, Deadshot, Deathstroke, Two-Face, Penguin… I LOVE THEM ALL!

My fave piece of Batman merchandise is actually my Suicide Squad Harley Quinn top which I got from Supanova last year, but you can get a similar one from Hot Topic, or any other online stores!

5) The 100 Fandom

I love morally ambiguous shows. I love anti-heroes. But I hate shows who get rid of minority characters FOR NO FREAKING REASON. I won’t spoil it for you, but something happened in Season 3 of The 100 that was so horrible, I boycotted the show. It wasn’t until about a year later that I was about to forgive and forget and enjoy the show again.

I don’t own any The 100 merchandise, but a piece of merch that I wish I did own is this bad boy right here. I love throw pillows, and I love how badass Clexa looks in this manip. Again, I just searched The 100 into sites like Society 6Redbubble, and Etsy. This particular pillow is from Redbubble.

Thanks for reading!

Let me know what you thought in the comments! And also let me know what your fave piece of merch is – I’m always on the lookout for something new!!

  1. Hello, Em! Always love your enthusiasm! Sorry that some older males have been snobs about your love for Star Wars!
I’ve always loved Batman as well, though I’m one of the older males so I read DC comics from the’70’s-’80’s and then gradually stopped reading. But I finally finished watching BvS last week (because I’m an older male with a wife and kids). It had some problems and I can see why people were disappointed, but it wasn’t as bad as I expected and they did an awesome job with Batman’s fight scenes. Wonder woman, of course, blew everyone else away. Can’t wait for that movie!
You’re inspiring me to add the Shadowhunters to my reading list. I didn’t get into the TV pilot but maybe I can read the books later on.
Glad you have a lightsaber to defend yourself against your brothers. We got one with lights and sound for my daughter, and yes, they are awesome! (:^D
May the Force be with you!

    1. Hey!
What can I say, extreme fanboys and fangirls from any fandom are always tricky to deal with.
I felt the same about BvS, I’m pretty sure I talk about it in more detail in my review on my channel but at the end of the day, I will always love anything that has to do with the DC world! And yes, I cannot wait for Wonder Woman as well!
Shadowhunters has always been a love of mine, but I have to warn you that it can be very childish (even to me, and I’m only 19!), but if/when your daughter is of age she should definitely read it! It’s a teen classic 🙂

      1. Sounds good! I got the impression that Shadowhunters is a basic premise that has probably been imitated by other writers enough that it no longer seems as fresh as it was when it started, like The Watchmen comic that didn’t seem that original when the film finally came out, or The Giver that was copied by DIvergent & other series. But she’ll probably love it. She said she wants to read my book, but she’s 10 and gets nightmares from Harry Potter films so I don’t know if she’s ready for a book w/ werewolves yet. I’m old school and I look for story & character development, so I love Superman the Movie over Man of Steel. To me, Wonder Woman looks like the first superhero film to truly follow the Superman the Movie epic storytelling model since the Toby Maguire Spiderman film. Hoping to arrange a babysitter so we can go see it in the theatre this time! (My wife and I have yet to see Rogue One and Fantastic Beasts – so pitiful!) (:^D Have a great day!

  2. That 100 Pillow !!!!!!!! It is amazing!! I love looking at fandom stuff from redbubble and society6! If I had money (hhahaha I wish) my room would be so full of it I might not fit.
